On 22nd September 1976, there was a boy called Ronaldo Luiz Nazario DaLima born at 9:30 am at Sao Francisco Javier hospital in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Before his birth, his family had already a daughter, Lone¹, and a son, Nelinho. Later on, Ronaldo got a nickname², Dadado, which was what his sister called him because she couldn't pronounce his name properly but now, no one would call him Dadado.

1976年9月22号清晨9：30，在巴西里约热内卢的Sao Francisco Javier 医院有个叫罗纳尔多，露伊茨.纳扎里奥 达 利马的男孩出生了，在他降临人世前，他家已经有了姐姐罗娜，和哥哥奈林荷。不久，罗纳尔多有了个外号，达达多，是她姐姐给他起的，因为她的发发不准确，现在没人会叫他达达多。

Ronaldo grew up in Bento Ribeiro, a suburb of Rio. He was obsessed³ with football from a very young age. His mother Sonia said that he used to talk in his sleep, shouting: 'Pass it, pass it, let me score!' and kicking his legs in the air. During his childhood, Ronaldo wanted to be a soldier or play the bass⁴ drum. He did not have much interest in school, but Portuguese⁵ and English were his best subjects. When he was four, his father, Nelio, gave him a football as Christmas gift. From then on, he used to play it every day.


罗纳尔多在里约热内卢的一个叫本托.利贝罗的郊区长大的。他从小就迷恋上了足球。他母亲苏尼亚说，他曾在梦中呼叫："传过来！传过来！让我射门！"且两腿在空中乱踢。在他童年时代，罗纳尔多曾想当兵，或做低音鼓手。他对上学没有多大的兴趣，可是英语和葡萄牙语是他的强项。当他四岁时候，他父亲，内里奥送他了个足球，作为生日礼物。从那时起，他每天都踢球。


His father said: 'He liked to challenge other kids to see who could keep the ball up the longest. Ronaldo loved sweets, and every time he came back home with a cake or lollipop⁶ in his hand. Zico was Ronaldo's idol⁷. When Ronaldo was 9 years old, his father took him to watch his idol the first time playing against Vasco da Gama at Maracana stadium. Ronaldo then hoped to end his career back in Brazil playing for Flamengo.


他父亲说："他总爱和其他孩子较量谁顶球时间长"。罗纳尔多喜欢吃甜食，每次回家总拿着块蛋糕或棒棒糖。当他9岁的时候，他父亲第一次带他去马拉卡纳体育场观看了他的偶像与瓦斯克.达.卡马的比赛。罗纳尔多从此希望回到巴西，为弗拉明哥队效力。

The first football match Ronaldo played was indoors at Valqueire tennis club. His coach, Fernando Dos Santos, found him as a potential star and took him to play 11-a-side for Social Clube de Ramos. Ronaldo scored 166 goals for Ramos. Then he was asked to go for a trial with Sao Cristovao, who played in the Rio second division. The first game Ronaldo played for Sao Cristovao was on august 12, 1990, against Tomazinho. He was only 13, but still scored 3 goals.


罗纳尔多的首次比赛是在瓦尔库勒网球俱乐部室内进行的。他的教练Fernando Dos Santos看出他是个有潜力的明星，带他参加拉莫斯社交俱乐部，踢11号边锋。罗纳尔多为拉莫斯踢进了166个球。后来，他被请去与Sao Cristovao队合作，她是里约热内卢的乙级队。首次为Sao Cristovao队踢的那场比赛是1990年的8月12日，对Tomazinho队。当时他才13岁，就独自进了3个球。

Then he gave up school the next year to concentrate as a professional player. His coach Alfredo Sampaio said: 'He was a good kid who was always chatting and laughing ...... his only weaknesses were his heading and his total disinterest in defending.' Ronaldo scored 36 goals in 54 games. Sampaio said: 'When things were going badly for the team, I always shouted to my lad s to give the ball to Ronaldo. He did the rest.' Then, Ronaldo was offered a trial by Flamengo but he didn't get noticed at all.


次年，他放弃了学业，专心做一名职业球员。他的教练Alfredo Sampaio说：他是个健谈爱笑的好孩子....他唯一的缺点就是顶球及对防守根本不敢兴趣。"在他参加的54场比赛中，踢进了36个球。Sampaio说："当场上形势不利的情况下，我经常冲我的小球员喊，把球传给罗纳尔多。由他去处理难题。这样罗纳尔多就被Flamengo聘为客座球员，但他事先根本不知道。
