The
Premier1 Session of Sino-Brazil High level Committee on
Coordination2 and Cooperation was held in Beijing on March 24. Wu Yi, Chinese
Vice3 Premier of the State Council, and Jose Alencar, Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, co-chaired the Meeting, exchanged views and put forward suggestions in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere on issues of enhancing and deepening Sino-Brazil strategic
partnership4, promoting and strengthening
bilateral5 cooperation in politics, economy, science, technology and culture, and came to an extensive
consensus6.
Wu Yi said that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Brazil 32 years ago, especially after the set-up of strategic partnership in 1993, Sino-Brazil relations had an all-round development, and high-level visits were frequent. The two countries obtained abundant achievements in cooperation and realized win-win in areas of politics, economy, science, technology and culture. Meanwhile, Chinese and Brazilian governments highly stressed the development of bilateral relations. Strengthening and deepening Sino-Brazil strategic relationship on the basis of mutual7 respect, equality and mutual benefit was in keeping with the fundamental interests of people of the two countries and was conducive8 to the South-South Cooperation.
Jose Alencar said that Brazil had much common ground with China in many areas and hoped to further develop the cooperation opportunities in various areas with China to tap into cooperation potential. China and Brazil were big developing countries and would make contribution to the world's prosperity under the new situation of cooperation enhancement.
The two sides agreed that the successful visit between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Brazilian President Lula in 2004 further promoted the development of bilateral strategic partnership. China was the biggest developing country in Asia, so was Brazil in Latin America, the two countries had strong complementarity to each other economically and huge cooperation potential, and the bilateral relations were of great vitality9. China and Brazil set up a high-level committee on coordination and cooperation to coordinate10 and promote the all-round development of bilateral relations, which completely indicated the emphasis of the two countries on development of bilateral relations and symbolized11 that the strategic partnership step forward a new stage. The committee was beneficial to reinforce and deepen the cooperation in various areas between China and Brazil to push forward mutual development and social progress. The two sides consulted and confirmed to take 6 existed bilateral cooperation mechanism12 as the sun-committee of Sino-Brazil high-level committee.
The Meeting heard the work report of the 6 sub-committee and the attendants were satisfied with the work in the past and the annual arrangement in 2006 to 2007. The two parties reached consensus to launch cooperation in politics, economy, trade, science and technology, aviation and aerospace13, quality supervision14 and inspection15, culture, energy and mineral resources, and education, to maintain strengthening and deepening Sino-Brazil strategic partnership to push forward mutually beneficial win-win and cooperation according to 4 principles of developing bilateral relations agreed by leaders of the two countries.
Before the Meeting, Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and Brazilian Vice President Alencar held small talks and signed together the Minute of the Premier Session of Sino-Brazil High level Committee on Coordination and Cooperation.
