有大众传媒的地方，就不会少了“名嘴”这个群体。在很多时候，“名嘴”们的观点也着实会影响大众舆论。这就是媒体的力量。随着各类“名嘴”的不断涌现，这个群体内部也出现了一些名人，他们的影响力要比一般的“名嘴”还大，所以他们被称为chatterati（名嘴精英）。

The chatterati includes members of the media (especially columnists), talk show hosts, TV talking heads, and so on. Chatterati combines chattering¹ classes, "the social group consisting of those people who are educated, articulate, and opinionated," and the suffix² -rati, "the elite³ or intelligentsia of a particular group." Similar words are literati and glitterati.

名嘴精英是包括媒体人员（尤其是专栏作家）、谈话节目主持人，以及电视节目播音员等在内的一个群体。Chatterati（名嘴精英）这个词是由chattering classes（名嘴阶层）和后缀-rati构成的，前者（chattering classes）代表“受过良好教育的、表达能力较强且个人观点鲜明的这样一个社会群体”， 而后者（-rati）则表示“某个群体中的精英分子”。类似构成的词还有literati（文人学士）和glitterati（知名人士）等。
