Anti-doping apparatus1 on display
An exhibition themed "Olympics Anti-doping 40 years" was opened in Beijing Venture Plaza2 on Wednesday.
Sponsored by the Science and Technology Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and the Chinese Olympic Committee, the exhibition reviews a number of doping cases in the past years and provides video display of anti-doping test process as well as computer inter-action means for visitors to test their knowledge about the anti-doping combat.
Lin Wenyi, president of the Science and Technology Committee expected the exhibition to help popularize anti-doping efforts, spread the Olympic spirit and enhance public attention to the issue.
In his speech, BOCOG executive vice-president Yang Shu'an said in addition to intensifying3 anti-doping tests, educational strategies spearheaded by precautions need to be implemented4 to make athletes of the 2008 Olympic Games aware of the danger drugs can pose and create a social environment boycotting5 drug use.
To run until January 20, the exhibition is believed to be the first of its kind proposed by the host city to target a wider audience instead of a number of specialists in the history of the Olympic Games. Similar exhibitions are expected to be organized in 2007 and 2008 in various parts of China.
The International Olympic Committee has reportedly decided6 to increase anti-doping tests to 4,500 during the 2008 Olympic Games, up 25 percent from the 2004 Athens Games.
