A report by a specialist German organisation¹ has stated that China is 'well ahead' of European countries in terms of developing sustainable battery recycling systems.

'Ensuring a Sustainable Supply of Raw Materials for Electric Vehicles' was written by the Oeko-Institute of Germany.

 

The report also praises the transparency of the battery recycling framework in China, and comments that Europe should seek to follow this lead.

 

The news comes at a time of rapid advancement² in battery technology, coinciding with the growth in the electric car industry.

 

Earlier in the year, we reported that one of the world’s leading battery firms, China's Contemporary Amperex Technology, was considering three countries to be the location of its first European factory.

 

The company already has plans in its home market to drastically increase its production capacity of batteries in order to meet demand from manufacturers.

 

It is expected that any future European factory would serve the needs of local manufacturers, alongside the global electric vehicle market.
