Officials and scholars from China and Norway vowed1 to enhance their cooperation on the study of the Arctic in order to better respond to climate change.
来自中国和挪威的官员与学者承诺要加强双方对北极研究的合作以更好地应对气候变化。
The Nansen-Zhu International Research Centre of the Institute of
Atmospheric2 Physics was established under the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003 to promote
bilateral3 collaboration4 in atmospheric science research. The center is focused on research into the climate in tropical and high-latitude areas.
Zhang Yaping,
vice5 president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said in a speech at the event that the center had made a great contribution to scientific research and international collaboration over the past 15 years, making it an excellent example for how to strengthen cooperation between China and Norway. He said the academy will further develop the center to increase its capacity to research climate change, and to further enhance bilateral cooperation in Arctic research.
Iselin Nybo, Norway's minister of research and higher education, said that ice in the Arctic is melting quickly because of global warming. "It is a common challenge to the world, and extensive international collaboration is needed," she said.
According to the
founder6 of the research center, Wang Huijun, China and Norway will establish a climate monitoring center for the Arctic region and further promote data sharing.
