Chinanews, Shanghai, September 21 – A university in Shanghai has started to set examinations for foreign interviewees before they get a teaching post, and all the examiners are Chinese faculty1 members.
The university said examination was meant to guarantee the quality of faculty members, especially foreign teachers who now took up 70% of the university's teaching staff. The university found that less than 10% of foreign interviewees were qualified2 teachers, so they had to watch out for unqualified ones while recruiting foreign teachers. Interestingly, teachers in this university have no right to give the final scores to their students, which is usually given by a special team organized by the university, to avoid cheating.
