Chinanews, Chengdu, April 12 - According to a recent survey in a kindergarten in Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province, 90% of the kids there know Christmas, but not the Chrysanthemum1 Day and the Dragon Boat Festival. Only 10% of them know something about the Mid-Autumn Festival. Obviously, Chinese kids today know very little about their tradition and culture.
The survey also finds that nearly 70% of the children spend a lot of their time playing video games or watching TV, but not in outdoor games. Electronic gizmos, Barbie Dolls and Doraemon are their favorite toys. They have wider access to information than their older generations, but the space for them to play and to live in is actually much smaller. "China is famous for its profound cultural foundation, but the kids today hardly care about it. It is very sad to see that the kids know little about the tradition and customs of China," said Xu Hong, vice2 director of the Chenghua District Division of Education of Chengdu. "It's the responsibility of us adults to create a proper cultural atmosphere first."
