Chinanews, Beijing, July 9 – The American film festival, usually shown in the Lower Manhattan region is, for the first time, linked with a well-known art creativity center in Beijing. On July 10-11, the Tribeca 798 Film Festival Beijing will be held in a Bauhaus-style factory building in the Beijing 789 art center, formerly1 the site of the State-owned Beijing Electron Tube Factory.
The Beijing 789 Art Center is a gathering2 place for artists in Beijing, which looks like a place very similar to the TriBeCa, an art center in New York. Under the same background, film production staff from both sides aim at organizing a film activity that can interest both film viewers in New York and film photographers in Beijing. The activity was jointly3 held by Tribeca Film Company, William Morris Agency, and the China Interactive4 Media Group. The film activity will focus on the screening of Planet B-Boy, a documentary by Korean-American director Benson Lee which had its first world premiere at the New York Tribeca Film Festival in 2007. In order to let Chinese audience better enjoy the taste of the American film festival, other activities will also be held, including a cocktail5 party at the opening ceremony, a free outdoor film screening, and a block party. “Over the past six years, Chinese films have played an important role and have won several awards at the Tribeca Film Festival. I’m so glad to see that our international cooperation has entered into a new stage this time,” said Peter Scarlet6, the Tribeca Film Fesetival art director. “In 2007, about 7,000 people watched the outdoor screening of Planet B-Boy outside the area of the World Trade Center in New York. We feel it a great honor that this time, the film will be displayed in Beijing, too,” said Benson Lee. Over the past six years, Tribeca Film Festival has screened 18 feature films and short films produced by Chinese filmmakers. This included 2046 made by Chinese director Wong Kar Wai, Still Life produced by Jia Zhangke, and Tuya's Marriage directed by Wang Quanan. Four films have won awards at the festival.
