Chinanews, Beijing, July 9 – In the past 25 years (1981 –2006), 43 million copies of the Holy Bible have been printed and published in China, reflecting the freedom of religious belief in the country, said Cao Shengjie, a member of China’s top advisory1 body, the Standing2 Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
In fact, China has hosted several exhibitions of different versions of the Holy Bible and other related readings in Hong Kong, the US and Germany, attracting numerous visitors, as there were many items with unique Chinese character on display, such as Chinese paintings themed on the stories from the Bible, Chinese-style music inspired by the teaching of Christianity, etc. Of course, the photos of the development of Christianity in China were included, too. Besides, many Chinese folk artists took part in the exhibitions to give on-the-spot performances. World Council of Churches once addressed one of such exhibitions as “one of the greatest events about the Holy Bible in the millennium3.” It can be estimated that such exhibitions have also helped people in other countries to gain a better understanding of Chinese culture, as well as the current situation of Christianity in China.
