Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 16 – In order to safeguard the public credibility for news media and to protect the public's interest, China recently launches a special campaign to fight against dishonest activities in journalism1. These dishonest activities include the fake magazine stands, fake press stations, fake reporters, and fake news.
The special campaign consisted of five aspects, which included a thorough check of the distribution markets for newspapers, magazines, and periodicals; cracking down the distribution of illegal newspapers; fighting against illegal activities related with news reporting and editing; fighting against news fabrication; and punishing those news publishing institutions of publishing books or magazines beyond their work duty, said Liu Binjie, director general of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP). By launching this campaign, it is hoped that the spread of fake newspapers and magazines, fake press stations, and fake reporters will be stopped. Fake news will not appear in the market. In addition, the market environment for newspaper and magazine distribution will improve and the market order for newspaper and magazine publishing will be better regulated. The campaign was jointly2 launched by GAPP and the National Working Office against Pornography, Illegal Publications and Piracy3. The campaign will last until October 15 this year.
