Chinanews, Shanghai, September 7 – In 2003, only 50 Chinese students took part in the Scholastic1 Assessment2 Test (SAT), a standardized3 test for college admissions in the United States, but the figure so far in 2007 was 1,560. According to the record of a SAT training class in Shanghai, the number of SAT participants in Shanghai leapt by nearly 50% every year. Since it is not very difficult to get student visa and full scholarship of the US, more and more Chinese students are willing to study there.
In the last two years, nearly 10,000 Chinese youngsters4 chose to study in American colleges or universities, and there will surely be more in the future. The Chinese students who want to study in the US can be mainly categorized into two groups. The first includes those students with very good performance but are not likely to enter famous Chinese colleges, as college entrance in China is still examination-oriented. The other group consists of students from wealthy families. Besides, most Chinese care much about of the name of a college. There are more than 200 world-class colleges and universities in the US, which is strong attraction to Chinese students.
