A Chinese girl has recently become the frontpage figure of the Time magazine. |
Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept. 7 – A Chinese girl has recently become the frontpage figure of the Time magazine. The girl, Liu Yun, an actress, once starred in films like Royal Tramp1, Da Han Tian Zi, and Hong Fu Nu. Liu Yun thus became the third Chinese entertainment star ever to appear on the Time magazine front cover. Previously2, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi and super voice girl Li Yuchun had both been selected as the frontpage figures by the Time magazine.
“Liu Yun is an example of the new Chinese generation, young, happy, and enjoying an affluent3 life. They behave in an unstrained and unaffected manner,” said the magazine when explaining its reason for choosing Liu as their frontpage person.
In the picture, Liu is dressed casually4 in a white T-shirt without wearing much make-up. She doesn't have any jewelleries and makes no poses5. In fact, she displays her true image in front of the camera.
However, in another photo, Liu appears quite sexy—she wears a small T-shirt, and a pair of short pants that show her long legs to advantage.
In an interview given to the Shanghai-based Youth Daily, Liu said the Time magazine chose her to appear in its front cover because of her “typical Oriental6 face. ”
“I look clean and pretty and my face shows that I am a person with a strong will. It is said that the magazine's photographer had decided7 that I was the person they wanted after they saw me for the first time. They then persuaded me to fly from Dalian to Beijing and take some pictures in a dancing studio,” she said.
She said that at first, she didn't believe that she would be chosen finally. Maybe she would just become one of the candidates8.
“They spent a whole day taking some pictures of me. I didn't expect that I will be chosen,”she said.
Compared with Zhang Ziyi and Li Yuchun, Liu had not attracted much public attention. Why did Time decide to select her?
“I think it's because I have a typical Chinese face and I become the lucky one,” Liu said.
