All scissorbills, shills, mountebanks, rounders and boondogglers are invited to the National Folk Festival in Butte next month to give their best shot at the title of Top Liar1.
A liar's contest will be part of the festivities when the National Folk Festival returns to Butte for the second year in a row July 10 to 12.
The contest, which is a unique event in tribute to the culture of the American West, according to a news release, will have contestants3 not only competing for bragging4 rights but also for a unique trophy5 that will be announced at the event.
Each contestant2 will be allowed a set amount of time to compete. The number of contestants will, by necessity, be limited as well, according to the news release.
Anyone interested in demonstrating their skills at hyperbole and guile6 can sign up at the Talkin' Horse Booth at the Montana Folklife Area any time Saturday prior to the contest, which starts at 5 p.m. at the Folklife Stage.
"This event is strictly7 limited to amateurs; lawyers, politicians, patent medicine salesmen or motivational speakers need not apply. Judges, however, will likely be drawn8 from a list of auspicious9 professionals in the aforementioned professions," the news release states.
