Chinanews, Chongqing, Feb. 27 – Chongqing Municipal Statistics Bureau recently released a report on the marital1 conditions of Chongqing people, revealing that 337 thousand people in Chongqing had divorced from 2001 to 2005. Experts think such a phenomenon reflects that local people have changed their marriage concept and that more people endeavor to pursue a happier life as the society develops.
Some experts also believe that the rapid increase of the divorce rate may bring some negative elements to society, although it shows that people today view marriage in a bolder light than yesterday. Statistics show that people who have received higher and elementary education have a relatively2 low divorce rate, and while those who have received only secondary school education have the highest divorce rate: 2.5%. Illiterates3 have the lowest divorce rate, only 0.6%. Experts also find that people live in cities and counties hold different views on marriage. In most of Chongqing’s counties, people still don’t support divorce, while in cities, young people think divorce is a good way to take up the responsibility for their own life.
