Chinanews, Guangzhou, February 27 – The two sessions of the National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will be held very soon, and Lu Lei, a deputy to the National People's Congress suggested that the discriminating1 title of “migrant rural workers” should be abolished.
“Migrant workers” refer to the farmers who go to work in the cities, most of whom are doing the cheapest jobs. Lu think that the government should pay attention to the self development of “migrant rural workers”, as most of them are quite young and talented. “Many writers used to be 'migrant rural workers', and our over-emphasis on diplomas and residence registration2 will only harm their creativity and enthusiasm”, said Lu. “Thus I believe we should simply call them workers instead, as the unification of titles might be the first step toward getting rid of discrimination”. Lu said that the idea had come to him in his visit to some “writers and poets of migrant rural workers origin” in Shenzhen, and he would submit the idea in the forthcoming two sessions.
