Chinanews, Beijing, March 2 – “China should control its total fertility rate around 1.8 in the next 30 years. That is to say, every woman of childbearing age should give birth to 2 children, which will be commensurate with social development,” said Zhai Zhenwu, the director of the School of Population and Sociological Studies of the Renmin University of China.
Zhai said this in his speech at the 3rd High-level Forum1 of Social Development Policies of China on February 28. It is estimated that the population in China will increase by 200 million in the next 30 years, thus it is necessary to maintain a 1.8-TFR to guarantee the realization2 of the goal of $3,000 worth of GDP per capita.
