Chinanews, Beijing, Mar1. 2 – A recent social survey shows that in 2006, Chinese people were more satisfied with their life than previous years, although in some aspects, there are still problems existing.
The Horizon Research Consultancy Group publicized their research result on Wednesday. Taking a five-grade scoring system, the survey shows that in 2006, Chinese people’s satisfaction degree with their life was 3.47, while in 2005, the mark was 3.4. Most notably2, Chinese urbanites’ satisfaction degree with their life increased remarkably3 in 2006 to surpass that of rural people for the first time. Conversely, Chinese rural people’s satisfaction degree with their life did not change much during the past one year. The survey also shows that both the urbanites and rural people’s satisfaction degrees with social security issue had risen steadily4 from 2002 to 2006. Social security, re-employment, housing reform, environmental protection and medicare reform are raised as the five top priorities for Chinese residents. In 2006, social security replaced re-employment as the top priority issue for Chinese urbanites. The survey finds that Chinese urbanites are more concerned with their old age life. The traditional idea of raising a son to take care of one’s old life has become less influential5 and more people nowadays agree that one’s family, society, as well as one’s company should all take a responsibility in this issue. In medicare issue, 12% of the respondents say that when ill they or their family members choose to give up seeking for medical treatment because of the high medical costs.
