Chinanews, Beijing, Mar1. 7 – “I get up at six in the morning and return home at 7 or 8 in the evening. My life is almost the same everyday - taking bus to go to work and returning home to sleep. I seldom go shopping or go in for other activities. My house doesn’t really look like a home to me. ”
Thousands of Beijingers who live in Yanjiao, a small county2 town in Hebei Province, describe their life in this way, the Yanzhao Metropolis3 Daily reported. Yanjiao is located some 30 kilometers away from the Tian'anmen Square and 25 kilometers away from the Capital Airport. It is a town in Hebei that lies closest to Beijing's downtown area. Due to a lower housing4 price, many Beijingers choose to buy their houses there. At present, there are at least 50,000 – 60,000 Beijingers living in Yanjiao. With all these people going out, the town is a bit quiet during the day. Zizhuyuan is one of the community centers where many people who work in Beijing live. “Only old people and children can be seen here during the day. When night falls, those who work in Beijing return home. However, since they are tired after a day’s work, most of them do not come out to take a walk in the evening. They would rather stay at home,” said a staff member at the Zizhuyuan Property Management Company. Haiyou Road is one of the main streets in Yanjiao. Although there are some restaurants on both sides of the street, few Beijingers eat there during the day. In the evening, these restaurants might have some customers home from Beijing after work. “I seldom eat at home. I have my lunch at the company and after I go off from work, I would rather finish my meal before I return to Yanjiao,” said Ms. Wen, who now works5 in Beijing.
