Chinanews, Haikou, April 3 - The high maternity1 and infant mortality rate in impoverished2 areas in China has triggered widespread concern, not to mention other severe health crises haunting children there. The Red Cross Society of China has launched a special fund to aid mothers and children living in impoverished areas recently in Sanya, Hainan Province.
Nowadays, the maternity and infant mortality rate in impoverished areas are 450% and 720% respectively of the figures in coastal3 areas. 70% of cerebral4 palsy suffers are found in these areas, too. Even relatively5 well-off families have to abandon the treatment when their children suffer from fatal diseases like leukemia, because they can't afford expensive medical costs. The fund will bring hope to the suffering children and mothers, particularly those in impoverished areas.
