Chinanews, Lhasa, November 15 – If you are planning to pay a visit to Lhasa in the near future, you will surely see many Tibetan-style mansions1 there. The red bricks and blue tiles of these mansions do make a beautiful scene under the blue sky and at the foot of snowy mountains there.
These mansions are the fruit of the housing project conducted by the Tibetan regional government. In the past, many Tibetans were homeless nomads2, and had to cope with the harshness of plateau environment. However, these days will soon be gone forever. The Tibetan regional government has started the housing project since the beginning of 2006, aiming to build new homes for more than 80% of herdspeople and farmers there as part of the project that will unfurl a new chapter in the drive for building a new socialist3 countryside there. After about 7 months’ effort, now the new housings for 47,000 families have been completed, ushering4 a brand new life for them.
