Chinanews, Beijing, Nov. 15 – Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced on Tuesday that 500 dogs collected by its dog inspection1 center could be adopted by local citizens. Most of these are stray dogs or dogs sold illegally in pet markets.
A senior official from Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau revealed that many of these are abandoned by their owners. He also said that some large-seized or spirited dogs, abandoned or sent by their owners to the local police station. The dog inspection center, located in Changping, a suburban2 district of Beijing, is divided into three functional3 areas of quarantine, seclusion4 and adoption5. Healthy dogs quarantined and approved by veterinary stations can be adopted by local citizens. Beijing has launched a two-month crackdown movement against illegal dogs like unregistered, large-seized or spirited ones. Some experts believe local police is flexible when it carries out such movement, and citizens have more opportunities to raise stray dogs.
