Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 14 –The Minister of Railways apologized on Tuesday to people for expensive food provided on passenger trains.
According to Beijing News, Jiang Haicheng, an ordinary citizen in Beijing, took K280 train from central China's Hubei Province to Beijing on Sept. 28, and ordered the cheapest meal “cabbage with black fungus” on the dinner coach. Then Jiang found very few cabbages and funguses in the dish, and he said that he was still hungry after he took the 30-yuan (US$3.83) meal. Jiang wrote a letter of complaint to Liu Zhijun, Minister of Railways, as soon as he returned home. “Soon after, I received a phone call from an official of the Ministry1 of Railways, promising2 me to solve the problem as soon as possible. Yesterday an official from Wuhan Passenger Transport Bureau also called me and made a formal apology to me,” he said. Several officials from the bureau made their visited Jiang in his home on Tuesday, including a discipline inspection3 official, the head of K280 train crew and the head of the dinner coach. Jiang got 20 yuan ($2.55) as compensation4. Jiang was satisfied and hoped every passenger can have the opportunity to enjoy high-quality meals on railway dinner coaches. Officials from the ministry vow5 not to allow such incidents to happen again in the future and plan to make more strict regulations on passenger train’s service.
