Chinanews, Shenyang, Jan. 24 – With the Spring Festival coming near, many women in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, began to make plans for their upcoming holidays. Some now go to beauty saloons to make reservations for a plastic surgery, Liaoshen Evening News reported.
These women not only want to look beautiful, but also look “lucky”, a type of appearance which people generally believe will bring luck to the person who has such looks. A reporter recently visited a beauty saloon in Shenyang. There a woman was asking the surgeon to make her cheekbones look less prominent than they are. “My face looks bigger with such prominent cheekbones. They are not only ugly, but are also said to bring bad luck to my husband. I want to have a face like those South Korean film stars. Their faces look small, sweet and ‘lucky,’” she said. Another woman in the beauty saloon required the surgeon to remove the spots on her face, especially those around her eyes. “A fortune teller1 once told me that these spots were ‘tear spots.’ With them, I will have a lot of bad fortunes in my life, he said. So I want to have them removed,” the woman said. In addition, she asked the surgeon to remove the spots near her mouth. Some old people told her these spots indicated that she would use up all the properties in her family, so it was countenance2 of very bad fortune, she said. Although there aren’t many people who want to take surgeries to look both beautiful and lucky, like the above-mentioned women the number of people who do have such ideas is rising. Most of them are businesspeople or women aged3 20-35. Some were graduate students, said the manager at the beauty saloon.
