Chinanews, Beijing, January 26 – Beijing Municipal Customs cracked a large fossil smuggling1, and 150 fossils were saved.
The fossils were found by X-ray in the luggage of a permanent foreign staff member of a packaging company in Beijing, who wanted to sent some 300 pieces of luggages abroad. After the check by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP), 93 of the 150 fossils are placed under state protection, and are not allowed to be exported, including the fossils of lycoptera and the molar of stegodon, even a saber-tooth cat skull2. Currently, the case is under further investigation3.
