Health authorities have announced that China's first-ever MERS case remains¹ in stable condition.

中国卫生当局宣布，国内首例中东呼吸综合症患者目前情况稳定。

The patient, a South Korean, is still receiving medical treatment in Huizhou city, Guangdong province.

In addition, all 78 people who had close contacts to the first patient have been located.

Zhang Wei with the provincial² health authority in Guangdong says that none of the 75 within China has showed any abnormality.

"Based on the incubation period of the virus, which is two weeks at most, the isolation³ of some close contacts can be lifted today, and some can be lifted tomorrow. If no abnormal symptoms are found by Friday, we can say that all the close contacts are safe without infection."

The South Korean felt ill as early as May 21. He flew to Hong Kong on May 26 and then entered the Chinese mainland by bus.
