Chinanews, Chengdu, February 12 – China Wolong Giant Panda Reserve has set up a special kindergarten for 18 baby pandas born in 2006, which are all weaned at present.
Nineteen baby pandas were born from last July to last September, and 17 of them survived, plus the one found in Baoxing County last December (presumably born in last August), making the largest baby panda group ever in Wolong. Nearly 2,000 sq m of land has been set aside for them to learn to live independently. Their breeders believe it is a good chance for them to learn to take the great responsibilities of reviving their kind, like what their mothers did. The kindergarten has impressed many visitors, as not many of them have seen so many lovely baby pandas gathering1 in one place before. By the end of last January, the reserve started soliciting2 names for the baby pandas from all around the world. Currently, nearly 100 thousand names from more than 40 countries have been collected, including Chinese, English and Japanese ones.
