Chinanews, Shanghai, Mar1. 8 – The estimated mortality, incidence, and prevalence rates of cancer among Shanghai women have been obtained from the latest cancer monitoring data provided by Shanghai Municipal Cancer Prevention Center (on Wednesday, Mar.7).
The data show that, among the 134,000 active malignant2 tumor3 patients, males are 44% and females 56%. There is one malignant tumor patient every 100 Shanghai women, and one breast cancer patient every three female tumor patients. Judging from the data of the last 20 years, the mortality, incidence, and prevalence rates of cancer among women in Shanghai have all been on the rise, women in urban areas in particular. The incidence of cancer in urban areas has almost doubled that of 20 years ago and patients tend to be younger than before. Currently, middle-aged4 women (40-49 years old), of 37% of Shanha’s total female population, are the high-risk group of breast cancer and neuroblastoma. Women of the 40-49 age group are equally susceptible5 to breast cancer as women above 60. They are also more likely to get neuroblastoma than women of other ages.
