Chinanews, Beijing, March 15 – According to Beijing Daily, Beijing is planning to put bi-lingual tags of Chinese and English outside of all the offices and departments of its municipal government. Standard English translations of the names of administrative1 posts and other staff members in the government will be published soon, too.
The unification of translations of administrative posts and government offices and departments is Beijing's first step to regulate the usage of English in public places in the city. “Beijing will release standard translations of the names of all its social organizations, colleges, scenic2 spots, food and other public facilities, which will be based on the translations by the Ministry3 of Foreign Affairs,”said one from the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. Currently, a lot of translators and other experts on English language are working on the unification of the translations of signs and notices in Beijing.
