Chinanews, Chengdu, May 11 - The 4th China Urban Forestation Forum1 was kicked off on May 9 in Chengdu of Sichuan Province in southwestern China. At the opening ceremony of the forum, Jia Zhibang, the director of the State Forestry2 Administration and vice3 president of National Forestation Commission, admitted that urban ecoenvironment in China is much worse than in developed countries.
"Since the beginning of the reform and opening-up, China has invested a lot of effort on improving its city facilities, but not on its urban ecoenvironment. In fact, the worsening ecoenvironment in Chinese cities has become a bottleneck4 of their development," said Jia. Jia believes what Chinese cities need most are not modern highways and skyscrapers5, but ecofriendly products, the weakest part of city facilities being eco facilities. Pollution, noise, dust, and hot island effect are the most common troubles Chinese urbanites face. Rural Chinese, however, lead a better life in the perspective ecnenvironmentally.
