Beijing May 13 - A project to clean up the rivers in the city of Beijing will be completed by the end of this year, said the Vice1 Director of the Beijing Water Affairs Bureau, Bi Xiaogang, on Saturday.
Bi Xiaogang said Beijing will work to increase the wastewater disposal capacity and improve the quality of recycled water. It will build five more sewage plants and upgrade the facilities at the existing plants. More wastewater treatment facilities will be installed in rural areas to enlarge the area the wastewater network covers. Beijing will also set up a water quality monitoring system to guarantee the city has better aquatic2 environments and make Beijing residents' lives more comfortable by the 2008 Olympics. The capital has 52 waterways with a total length of 520 kilometers.
