Chinanews, Lhasa, October 30 – “There might be a very great iron mine in the metamorphic rock belt that covers nearly ¼of the Himalayas area, which is good news to us in our endeavor to ease the iron ore shortage in China, ” said Bian Qiantao, a researcher from Institute of Geology and Geophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Being a member of China International Himalayas Expedition Team, Bian has found quartz-magnetic iron ores, which contains over 80% of magnetite and over 50% of iron, in the High-Himalayas Metamorphic Rock Belt in the expedition.
The discovery means that the entire rock belt might have the condition to conceive a great rich iron mine. These ores came into being about one billion years ago, together with the rock belt, and there should be an abundance of ores in the area.
