Chinanews, Xichang, June 2 – The Changzheng series of carrier rockets accomplished1 its 100th successful launch at the Xichang Satellite Launching Center on Friday, when the Changzheng 3A sent the SinoSat-3 telecommunication2 satellite into space.
Chinese aeronautics3 experts say that the Changzhen series of carrier rockets can be divided into four major types with 12 models. The Changzheng series of carrier rockets can send various types of satellites into different kinds of orbits. The 100th successful launching indicates that China has developed the Changzheng series into a highly competitive technological4 product in the world. On April 24, 1970, Changzheng No.1 carrier rocket successfully sent Dongfanghong No.1 into space for the first time in history. Since then, Changzheng carrier rockets have gradually been developed into highly sophisticated products. They developed from conventional propulsion system to cooling propulsion system. At first, the rocket could send only one satellite. Later, it could carry multiple satellites at a time. It can now send spacecraft into the sky in addition to satellites. Right now, Changzheng series has four major types, Changzheng No.1, Changzheng No.2, Changzhen No. 3 and Changzheng No.4. Changzheng series has created several records in history: it had successfully sent China’s first man-made satellite, China’s first retrievable5 satellite, China’s first telecommunication satellite, and China’s first manned spaceship. It has also successfully sent commercial satellites into space for some foreign companies. Right now, it has taken a share in the international commercial satellite launching service market.
