Chinanews, Shanghai, June 4 - Depression has become one of the most common mental diseases in China, with an incidence of no less than 17% among ordinary Chinese. It is said that 80% of 20 thousand suicides in China every year suffer from depression.

Obviously, depression has become a big social problem. Furthermore, many people still hold strong prejudice against mental patients, including depression patients. "Some depression patients were pushed to kill themselves by unbearable1 prejudice," said Shan Huaihai, an expert from Shanghai Preventive Medical Association.

Depression first causes low spirit, then desperation, and eventually suicide. However, timely treatment can surely help depression patients out of such tragedy. "Many people still discriminate2 against depression patients rather than help them," said Shan. "And many patients discriminate against themselves more after they know their disease, and refuse treatment."
