Chinanews, Beijing, June 6 - With an analysis of latest satellite sensing images, Dr. Liu Shaochuang of the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has updated the length data of 10 great rivers in the world with more precise statistics1.
According to Liu, the longest river in the world is the Nile, which is 7,088 km long, and the 6,575-km-long Amazon is the second longest one. Liu's research shows that the Yellow River should be 5,778 km long, about 314 km longer than current data. The Heilongjiang River is 5,498 km long, and it should be considered as a great river, too.
