Chinanews, Urumqi, November 23 – Ten great lakes have been found in the Takalimakan Desert recently. These ten lakes are located in Ruoqiang, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous1 Region, and are all linked to cover a total area of well over 200 sq km.
The lakes are found in a swamp area, and the scientists are working hard to find when the lakes came into being. The only thing confirmed about the lakes is that it must have been there for long, as there are many kinds of fish in them, including schizothorax tarimi kessler, an endangered river species in Xinjiang. Our reporter visited the No. 8 lake, a relatively2 small one, where the banks were all covered with reeds, and many gulls3 were flying over the sapphire-like water and golden sand.
