Chinanews, Hong Kong, Nov. 24 - Some experts disclosed that the location of the first inland nuclear power station would be announced by the end of this year, Hong Kong-based Wen Wei Po reported from Wuhan.
Among the three candidate provinces, namely Hubei, Hunan and Jiangsi, it is said that Hubei is in a “highly advantageous” position to become the final winner. Early in last April, the China Power Engineering Consulting Group, under the entrustment1 of the State Development and Reform Commission, made a comparative investigation2 of the situation in the three provinces in the hope of selecting a most appropriate site for the power station. Although the final result has yet to be disclosed, competitions among the three provinces have become intense. Hunan Province is contemplating3 a feasibility report, and the potential site recommended by Jiangxi Province had gained related authority’s approval three months ago. Hubei Province signed an agreement with the China Power Investment Group at the beginning of this year, declaring that they would jointly4 develop the nuclear power project. Construction of a special road for the nuclear power station was kicked off in Hubei in last March with an investment of 80 million yuan. The road is expected to be completed in September next year. Hubei intends to build the nuclear power station in Dafan Town, Tongshan County, Xianning City. With an investment of 23 billion yuan, designers plan to build two one-million-kilowatt generating sets for the nuclear power station in the first phase.
