Chinanews, Kunming, Jul. 13 – Yunnan Provincial¹ Bureau of Health revealed on Wednesday that a project had been launched in Yunnan to protect women from AIDS. The one-year project will help 80% of women in Yunnan get some basic knowledge of AIDS.

Yunnan has been seriously hit by AIDS in recent years. There were 34 thousand HIV-infected patients and 48 thousand AIDS patients from 2004 to 2006. Experts said that currently more women than ever in Yunnan are threatened by AIDS, and they are also the main force in the fight against the epidemic².

The project comprises an educational program, aimed to help more women understand the seriousness of AIDS infection.
