Chinanews, Beijing, Jul. 28 – Experts revealed on Jul. 14 that Huanan (South China) tiger is not extinct, based on the result of 14 years of research. Some villagers have seen this kind of tigers. Experts believe there are still some of these tigers living in Shaanxi, Hubei and Chongqing.
Statistics show that there had been no reports on the survival of wild Huanan tigers in the past 30 years, so some people regard the tiger as precious as the giant panda.
Huanan tiger has a long period of evolution, and used to live in northeastern China in the past. Because of increasing human activities, Huanan tigers later were forced to live in China's South.
Currently China has only 70 Huanan tigers raised by humans, including 2 in training in South Africa.
