Chinanews, Wuhan, Sept. 11 - Golden snub-nosed monkey (golden monkey) is currently in danger in Hubei Province. Liao Mingxiao, a senior official from Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, said that Chinese scientists had taken comprehensive research on such monkeys since they were first discovered in Hubei in the 1980s.
Golden snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellanae) is a species of primate1 in the Cercopithecidae family. Liao said that although human activities had posed less threat to monkey habits with the launch of a forest protection project by the Chinese government, the monkey is threatened by habitat loss, as economic development has cut its habitats into several pieces. He said that local people were poor, and local government still needed to support them lest they destroy the nature reserve.
