Chinanews, Hefei, September 18 - - Three students of the Institute of Polar Environment of the University of Science and Technology of China will go to the South Pole for a 100-day research project. Yang Zhiyong and Huangtao, the two of them, will study the dungs of penguins1, as they may contain important information on environmental changes, especially on global warming.
Previous researches has found the traces2 of human activities in the furs of seals and the dungs of penguins, thus Yang and Huang want to do further research in this aspect to find more about human effect on the ecoenviroment. The 24th polar scientific exploration team will also go to the South Pole with the students, to take part in the biggest polar research project in 50 years, also the key project of the International Polar Year, themed in the effect of global warming on polar areas.
