Chinanews, Shanghai, Dec. 14 - China’s first windpower plant at sea will be built at the East Sea Bridge in Shanghai.
The plant will form a new fantastic scene at the East Sea Bridge, the first long-distance bridge built across the sea in China. It is expected that by 2010, the total installed capacity of wind electricity in Shanghai will reach 200-300 megawatts. According to the windpower project plan, 50 large wind mills, with a diameter of at least 60 meters and a height of over 100 meters, will be built from Luchao Port to Yangshan region across the East Sea coastal1 areas. When the project is completed, it can generate 200 million kilowatt2 hours of electricity every year. If every household in Shanghai consumes 1,000 yuan worth of electricity on average every year, electricity generated by the plant can meet the power consumption demand of 1.25 million households in Shanghai. Construction of the project is now at its pre-stage period.
