Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept 27 – The launching date for the Chang'e No.1 moon probe satellite is coming near. Its launching site, Xichang satellite launching center is now about to 'launch' a tourist program before it ever launches the satellite into space – with 800 yuan each, tourists will be able to come to the scene to witness the launching moment, the Shanghai Morning News reported.
Established in 1970, Xichang satellite launching center is the second satellite launching center ever built in China. Since it sent off the first telecommunication1 satellite into space in Jan 1984, it has successfully sent 28 domestic and foreign satellites into space. “We have built two viewing stands to see the launching process. Both are about 2.5 kilometers away from the launching site. The bigger one can seat 2,000 people while the smaller one can seat 500 people,” said Wang Cheng'an, a person at Xichang Jinying Tourist Agency who is in charge of the tourist program. At present, many Chinese people are eager to take a tour to satellite launching centers. The Jiuquan satellite launching center in Gansu might be opened to tourists in October. In Hainan Province, people are building an aeronautic2 theme park in Wenchang County. The Jiuquan satellite launching center, built in 1958, is located in the Badanjilin Desert, which is 210 kilometers away from Jiuquan city in Gansu Province. So far, the launching center has successfully sent 21 satellites into space, with 8 being retrievable3 satellites. Its success rate for the launching has reached 100%. “In October, Jiuquan satellite launching center might be open to a limited number of tourists,” Mr. Yu, a person working with the Jiuquan Tourism Bureau, told this reporter. The tourist program has now been handed to related authority for approval. So it might take some time before the program can ever be launched, he said. The 'limited number of tourists' means that only the mainland people can ever go to the satellite launching base for a visit, he further explained. On September 24, a report meeting about the general designing program for the affiliated4 areas in Wenchang Satellite Launching Center was held in Wenchang. During the meeting, people related with the designing program presented a detailed5 scheme of building an aeronautic theme park in Wenchang. This was the first time that such proposal was announced in a public occasion. According to the proposal, the aeronautic theme park will be built into a scientific education center for people to get knowledge about aeronautics6. A viewing stand which can seat 3,000 people will be built near the coast for people to see the launching process.
