Chinanews, Urumqi, Oct 10 – In 2007, the Tarim Oilfield is expected to generate some 20 million equivalent tons of oil and gas. Of this, the natural gas output might reach 15.7 billion cubic meters. If this comes true at the end of this year, Tarim Oilfield will become the largest gasfield in China, people working at the Tarim Oilfield told the reporters today (Tuesday).
In 2007, the natural gas output in Tarim Oilfield might increase by 4.7 billion cubic meters from last year. In 2006, the oilfield generated 6.05 million tons of crude oil and 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas. In all, its oil and natural gas production last year exceeded 15 million equivalent tons, which made Tarim Oilfield the second largest gasfield and the third largest oil and gas field in China. Tarim Basin covers a total area of 560,000 square kilometers, its prospective1 natural gas reserves amounting to 10 trillion cubic meters. It serves as the starting point for China's west-to-east gas transmission project. Much of the gas that is diverted to the prosperous east region comes from the Kara No.2, a gasfield with the largest gas production capacity in China. In April this year, the Yingmaili Gasfield in Tarim oilfield was put into operation. With its operation, the gas from Yingmaili was transferred to China's east region via Lunnan area, the first stop for China's largest gas transmission project. At present, about 15 billion cubic meters of gas can be transferred outside Tarim oilfield a year, exceeding the yearly 12-billion-cubic-meter transferring amount originally designed for the west-to-east gas transmission project.
