Chinanews, Beijing, October 11 – According to the Ministry1 of Agriculture, China officially became a member of the Commission of Conservation of Antarctic Marine2 Living Resources on October 9, 2007.
The Convention of Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources is implemented3 by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources to safeguard the environment and protect the integrity of the ecosystem4 of the seas surrounding Antarctica, and to conserve5 Antarctic marine living resources.
From now on, China will be responsible for developing Antarctic marine living resources in a sustainable way and making it a vital part of its fishery.
The Antarctic is known for its rich living resources, including various fishery resources.
The Convention was concluded in 1980, and came into effect two years later.
China joined the Convention in last October, and applied6 for membership of the Commission on last August 2.
