Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 13 – China's manned moon probe project will consist of three stages and the current moon probe project, which is usually divived into three minor1 steps, namely moon orbiting, moon landing and satellite's returning to earth, is only one part of the bigger project, said Luo Ge, deputy director of the China National Space Station, on Wednesday.

According to Luo, the manned moon probe project will contain three stages: in the first stage, China will send a satellite to orbit around the moon, to land on the moon and finally to return to earth; in the second stage, China will send some astronauts to the moon; in the third stage, Chinese astronauts will stay on the moon for some time.

If China wants to send astronauts to the moon, China should finish the first three minor steps. Since the first stage work has not been completed yet, there is as yet no concrete schedule as to when China will start work for the rest of the two stages, Luo noted2.

In talking about moon landing, Luo revealed that related preparation work had been completed and the project had been reported to related departments for approval. He predicted that China would kick off the moon landing research work next year.
