Chinanews, Nanning, Jan. 30 – Guangxi regional government plans to allocate1 10 million yuan as a special fund for fighting against AIDS, Guangxi regional governor Lu Bing said when delivering a government report at the fifth session of the Tenth Guangxi Regional People's Congress last Friday.
A statistical2 report from the Guangxi Regional Health Bureau shows that there are now 26,000 reported AIDS cases in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous3 Region, with 2,400 people infected with the disease. This year, the number of newly reported AIDS cases has reached 5,800 in Guangxi. Guangxi is now one of the regions in China that is severely4 hit by AIDS and the disease has now spread from urban to rural areas. In order to fight against the disease, Guangxi regional government has outlined a five-year action plan. The plan requires that governments at various counties and cities in Guangxi should include AIDS prevention and treatment funds in their local budgets. In 2007, Guangxi regional government will set up an AIDS prevention and treatment fund at the regional (provincial) level, as one of the ten major tasks that the government will do for the public.
