Chinanews, Zhengzhou, July 31 – Flag football, a kind of American football, is becoming more and more popular among Zhengzhou high school students. Unlike professional American football, in a flag football game, it is not allowed to tackle1 other players to the ground. Instead, the defensive2 team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("deflagging") to end a down.

This “mild” game is thought to be one of the best teamwork games for kids aged3 between 8 and 14, for it is safer than soccer, basketball and of course, professional American football. It requires a ground 1/4 the size of a standard soccer field to play the game.

On July 26, two American coaches came to Zhengzhou No.6 High School to teach 60 selected PE teachers and students the rules of flag football.

This November, Zhengzhou will hold a flag football match for high school students, and a national match will be held the next year, with players from 8 cities taking part in it. The winner will compete in the 08 Flag Football World Cup, on behalf of China.
