1. (right) on the money
exactly right; in exactly the right place; in exactly the right amount (of money). 完全正确;恰到好处;(钱)正好够数。
e.g. You were right on the money when you said that I would really like that book.
你说过我会很喜欢那本书,被你说中了。
2. come into (some) money
to get some money unexpectedly, usually by inheritance. 得到意外之财,通常是因为继承遗产。
e.g. She came into a lot of money when she turned twenty.
她二十岁的时候得到了一大笔意外之财。
3. fork some money out (for something)
to pay (perhaps unwillingly) for something. (Often mention is made of the amount of money. See the examples.) 为某物付出钱财(也许不情愿)。(常会提到是要一大笔钱。看例子感受一下)
e.g. Do you think I'm going to fork twenty dollars out for that book?
你认为我会花20美元去买那本书吗?
4. funny money
1) counterfeit money 假币
e.g. The bank teller spotted the funny money in the man's deposit almost immediately.
银行出纳人员立即发现那个人存款用的是假钞。
2) temporary or substitute money, good only in certain places 暂时流通或代替流通的货币,只在特定的地方通用。
e.g. What am I going to do with all this funny money when I leave here? It's no good anywhere else.
我离开这里后要怎么处理这些替代货币?其他地方都不能用啊。
3) foreign currency 外币
e.g. We had better buy some gifts and get rid of some of this funny money before our flight. 在起飞前我们最好买一些礼物,花掉些这些外币。
5. I'd bet money (on it)
I am certain. 我确定。类似于我们“赌五毛”的感觉??好吧,其实也就是“我敢打赌”~
e.g. I'd bet money on it. I'd bet money that Jane will get that job.
我很确信。我敢打赌Jane会得到那份工作。
6. in the money
1) wealthy 富有的
e.g. John is really in the money. He's worth millions.
John真的很富有。他有百万的财产呢。
2) in the winning position in a race or contest. (As if one had won the prize money) 在比赛或竞赛中处于优胜地位。(就好像已经获得了优胜奖金)
e.g. I knew when Jane came around the final turn that she was in the money.
当Jane进入到了最后一轮,我就知道她赢定了。
7. heavy bread
a great deal of money 一大笔钱
e.g. That car cost some heavy bread.
那辆车要花好一些钱呢。
8. money talks
Money gives one power and influence to help get things done or get one's own way. 金钱会赋予人权利和影响力,能够帮助事情完成或为所欲为。(就是“有钱能使鬼推磨”啦)
e.g. She'll get her way because money talks.
有钱能使鬼推磨,她想做什么都可以。
9. money to burn
More than enough money for what is required or expected. 超出所需或期望的足够的钱。
e.g. After they paid off the creditors, they still had money to burn.
他们还完债权人的钱后,仍有用不完的钱。
10. be coining it (British & Australian informal)(英式英语&澳洲英语的非正式说法)
to be earning a lot of money quickly 迅速挣到一大笔钱
e.g. The magazine has been coining it since the new editor took over.
自从那个新的编辑接手以来,这个杂志就狠赚一大笔了。
也可以说be coining money(美式英语&澳洲英语的非正式说法)
