The Chinese Foreign Ministry1 says the land reclamation2 project on some stationed islands and reefs of the Nansha Islands has been completed as planned.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying details the main purpose of China's construction activities.
"The construction will aim mainly at meeting various civil demands, and help China better
implement3 its international responsibilities and obligations in aspects including
maritime4 search and rescue, disaster prevention and reduction,
marine5 research, meteorological observation,
ecological6 environmental protection, navigation safety and fishery production services."
Hua adds that China will then start the building of facilities to meet relevant
functional7 requirements.
